
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially released the list of nominees for the 2025 CAF Awards in the women’s categories, highlighting remarkable performances across the continent from January 6 to October 15, 2025. This esteemed recognition honors players, coaches, clubs, and national teams who have excelled in African women’s football, reflecting its dynamic growth and increasing competitiveness.
A distinguished panel comprising CAF experts, coaches, legends, and media representatives shortlisted 10 nominees per category based on performance in all competitions.
Women’s Player of the Year features a stellar group including Ghana’s Portia Boakye (Hapoel Petah Tikva), Malawian sisters Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga who ply their trade in Europe and the US respectively, and Morocco’s captain Ghizlaine Chebbak, top scorer at the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2024. Nigerian stars Rasheedat Ajibade of Paris Saint-Germain and Esther Okoronkwo, key contributors to Nigeria’s tenth WAFCON title, also claim nominations. This category epitomizes the rich talent and diversity within African women’s football.

The Women’s Club of the Year category sees clubs from across Africa, including 2024 Champions League finalists 15 de Agosto from Equatorial Guinea, Morocco’s dominant AS FAR, Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens FC, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, and newly nominated outfits such as Botswana’s Gaborone United.

The Women’s National Team of the Year honors teams that have demonstrated excellence continentally and globally. Nigeria’s senior team, the Super Falcons, alongside the Nigeria U17 Flamingos, vie against established sides such as Ghana, South Africa, Cameroon U17, and Morocco.

Emerging talents feature prominently in the Women’s Young Player of the Year category with nominees like Shakirat Moshood of Nigeria and footballers from Zambia, Tanzania, and other nations, reflecting a promising future generation.

The vital role of goalkeepers is acknowledged in the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year list that includes Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie (Brighton & Hove Albion), Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi, and other outstanding talents from across the continent.

The Women’s Coach of the Year category honors tactical excellence and leadership. Notable contenders include Nigeria’s Bankole Olowookere, South Africa’s Desiree Ellis, Morocco’s Lamia Boumehdi, and Equatorial Guinea’s Genoveva Anonman, illustrating the expanding leadership presence of women across African football coaching.

The CAF Awards 2025 ceremony is highly anticipated as it showcases the achievements and continued advancement of women’s football across Africa, bringing deserved recognition to those pushing the sport to new heights.
