Burnt INEC Office: Ogun Police promises to reward informants with N2.5M

The Iyana Mortuary office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state’s Abeokuta South Local Government Area was set on fire, and the Ogun State Police Command has offered a N2.5 million reward for information leading to suspects apprehension.

On November 10, 2022, the INEC office was destroyed by fire.

According to a source, the thugs broke into the facility at night carrying bread soaked in gasoline, which they tossed into various parts of the structure to start the fire.

In a statement released on Monday, the state police public information officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that Lanre Bankole, the police commissioner, had ordered the state criminal investigation department to launch an investigation in an effort to identify the arsonists.

He added, “In furtherance of the directive to get to the root of the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice, the command has resolved to reward anybody with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators with the sum of N2.5m.

“In view of this, any member of the public with useful information that will assist the command should come forward, and rest assured that such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.”

The Indigenous People of Biafra, meanwhile, have refuted claims that they were behind the attack on the INEC office in Imo State.

In a statement released on Monday, the group’s director of media and publicity, Emma Powerful, asserted that security officers were responsible for the attacks on public institutions.
