While the celebration of the feat attained by Tobi Amusan in the 100 metres hurdle is still ongoing, another Nigerian, also a female has put Nigeria on the global reckoning again winning gold. Weightlifter Olarinoye Adenike Adijat wins Nigeria’s first gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Hopefully, the gold by Olarinoye will open floodgates of other medals.
Olarinoye recorded a total of 203kg. The 203kg lift setting a new Commonwealth Games record.
Nigeria is currently on ninth position on the medals table with Australia leading the charts with 13 gold, eight silver and 11 bronze while New Zealand occupies the second position having won seven gold, four silver and two bronze medals and England is third with five gold medals, 12 silver and four bronze.
This is good news in the midst of high level uncertainty in the history of Nigeria.
