Despite the efforts being put in place by the Lagos State Government towards ensuring that structural integrity of buildings are in line with best practices to safeguard lives and properties, no fewer than six persons have again been trapped in the rubble of a seven-storey building which collapsed close to the Sand field bus stop, in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
ValidViewNetwork reports that emergency responders have been deployed to commence rescue operations at the scene of the incident.
The Sunday incident has been confirmed by the Lagos Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye.
According to Farinloye “Seven-storey building collapsed at Sand field bus stop, Lekki. Six people are said to be trapped and responders are on ground.”
The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu also confirmed in his reaction to the incident that the seven-storey building was under construction when it caved in.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency is working assiduously towards rescuing the trapped victims as the Lagos State Response plan had been activated and the operation is ongoing.
ValidViewNetwork hopes that due diligence will always be adhered to in the approval and construction of buildings across the country and relevant agencies of government will ensure strict compliance with all best practices as the issue of collapse building is becoming rampant.
