A scandal has shaken the Our Lady of Aparecida Parish in Nova Maringá, Brazil, after Reverend Luciano Braga Simplicio was caught hiding the fiancée of one of his parishioners inside the parish house. The incident occurred earlier this week when a group of angry men stormed the priest’s residence, suspecting wrongdoing.
Video footage from the confrontation shows the shirtless priest being confronted as the men forcibly broke down a bathroom door, revealing a visibly shaken 21-year-old woman hiding underneath the sink. The woman, dressed in shorts and a tank top, was dragged out and appeared too stunned to speak, raising serious questions about the length of her stay inside the parish house.
Local sources, including the blog Pelo Bem de São José, report that Reverend Simplicio brought the woman into the parish residence early in the morning while her fiancé, also a parishioner, was out of town. The priest defended himself, insisting that he merely allowed the woman to use the bathroom to shower after her work, describing it as an innocent act of kindness.

Despite the priest and the woman denying any sexual relationship, the confrontation and circumstances have sparked outrage among parishioners and the broader community. The fiancée has reportedly filed a police complaint, alleging the inappropriate dissemination of video footage following the incident.
The Diocese of Diamantino, which oversees the priest and the parish, has launched an internal investigation to determine whether Reverend Simplicio breached the 1983 Code of Canon Law. This code expressly forbids priests of the Latin Church from engaging in any sexual or affective relationship.
The investigation continues as the parish and community await the outcome amid mounting concern over the conduct of a spiritual leader entrusted with the care of his congregation.
This episode has become a focal point for discussions on accountability and trust within religious institutions, especially when those in positions of spiritual authority are implicated in scandals that undermine their role as moral guides
