Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu, the first-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Badagry Constituency I, has been named the Most Outstanding State House of Assembly Lawmaker of the Year 2026 by the Nigeria Young Minds Impact Awards.

The honour was conferred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State, in recognition of his legislative diligence, leadership and commitment to public service. Bonu was represented at the ceremony by his senior aide, Mr. Mego Monday, who collected the award on his behalf.
In a Facebook post after the event, Mego described the recognition as a proud milestone that validated Bonu’s tireless work and impact as a legislator. He congratulated his principal and expressed pride in serving on his team.
Bonu himself announced the award on social media, describing it as a testament to his passion for legislative duties and the development of Lagos State. He dedicated the honour to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as well as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and his deputy. He further extended the dedication to the people of Badagry Constituency I, who elected him and continue to support his representation.
The lawmaker thanked residents and political leaders for their trust and encouragement, saying the award would spur him to greater service.
Bonu, born on June 16, 1972, entered the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress after resigning as Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture. He currently chairs the House Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture. Before politics, he lectured and studied political science.
His legislative record has previously drawn attention. Independent rankings by Lagos Reporters placed him among the top performers in the 40-member Assembly, including as the highest-rated first-term lawmaker and seventh overall in a 1,000-day scorecard that assessed constituency engagement, accessibility and community impact. Constituents have credited him with facilitating infrastructure and welfare interventions, while he has also received recognition for contributions to tourism development, including an honorary fellowship from the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (Southwest Chapter).
The latest award adds to the growing profile of the Badagry representative as a grassroots-focused legislator whose work continues to attract external acknowledgement.
