Blockade Fallout: Police Arrest Suspects in Obi Convoy Saga

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of suspects in connection with the blockade of Peter Obi’s convoy in Makurdi on Tuesday.

This comes as AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore alleged that the Benue State Government was behind the incident, claiming a special adviser to Governor Alia was seen among the crowd.

Arrests Made

ValidViewNetwork gathered that the Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of suspects in connection with the blockade of Peter Obi’s convoy in Makurdi on Tuesday.

The NDC presidential candidate was in the state to sympathise with families and communities devastated by the Yelwata massacre when he was blocked by some youths.

Sowore’s Allegation

AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has alleged that the Benue State Government was behind the incident.

Sowore claimed that a special adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia was seen among the crowd that chanted

“Peter Obi, go back”. “The clearer indication that the government was involved was actually made available by Mr. Peter Obi himself, who stated clearly that one of the special advisers to the governor was seen as part of the crowd,” Sowore said.

A Rejection of Political Violence

The arrests come amid growing concerns about political violence ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Benue State Government had earlier denied responsibility for the incident, with the Chief Press Secretary to the governor stating that Governor Alia does not patronise thugs.

A Lesson for Nigeria

The arrests in connection with the blockade of Peter Obi’s convoy are a reminder that political violence has no place in a democracy.

The same politicians who incite violence will never allow their own children to be victims of it. Their families are protected.
