Bishop Oyedepo reacts to leaked audio with Obi

The founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, (Winners Chapel) Bishop David Oyedepo had reacted to a leak phone conversation with the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi.

In the audio clip which has since gone viral, a voice similar to that of Obi can be heard asking the cleric to speak to the Christians in the South-west and Kwara state to vote for him in the presidential poll, describing the election as a “religious war”.

“Daddy, I need you to speak to your people in the South-West and Kwara, the Christians in the South-West and Kwara. This is a religious war. Like I keep saying: if this works, you people will never regret the support.”

But speaking to the congregation at the church’s headquarters, Faith Tabernacle, Ota, Ogun State, on Sunday, Bishop Oyedepo said he never campaigned for any politician or spoken on their behalf in the build-up to the 2023 General Elections in the country.

He added that all political parties sought his prayers and advice before the election and he availed them.

“I have never campaigned for anybody or spoken on anybody’s behalf and I will not do that till I go to heaven.

“There is no (political) party in this country that didn’t come to me for prayers and advice.

“I advised them, some, they didn’t take. Those who chose to take it saw results; those who said no are still going about it.

Meanwhile, media aide to Peter Obi, Valentine Obienyem, said the leaked audio of his principal’s conversation with Bishop David Oyedepo was being taken out of context by Obi’s opponents.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Obienyem claimed the audio was edited to give it a different meaning.

He also alleged that a committee of communication experts have been set up to review all calls made by Obi to see if he mention interim government in his calls.

The audio clip has since thrown the Obi’s camp into confusion with some of his associates denouncing it as fake while others seemly confirmed its authenticity.
