In response to the recent surge of violent reprisal attacks in Benue State, President Bola Tinubu has renewed his directive to security agencies to restore peace and order in the troubled region. The latest wave of bloodshed has claimed numerous lives, prompting the president to call for urgent and decisive measures.
President Tinubu has mobilized intelligence officers, police, and military personnel to Benue to lead coordinated security operations aimed at halting the violence. He emphasized that the ongoing killings are “inhuman and anti-progress” and appealed to political and community leaders to desist from inflammatory remarks that could escalate tensions further.
In a strong message to Benue State Governor, President Tinubu charged him with the responsibility of initiating reconciliation meetings and dialogue among farmers, herders, and community groups. The goal is to foster lasting peace and harmonious coexistence in the state.
“The latest news of wanton killings in Benue State is very depressing. We must not allow this bloodletting to continue unabated. Enough is now enough,” the president stated. He urged the security agencies to act decisively to apprehend and prosecute all perpetrators involved in the violence.
President Tinubu also called on leaders across all divides to work together with fairness, openness, and justice to address the root causes of the conflict. “Our people must live in peace, and it is possible when leaders act responsibly and collaboratively,” he said.
This renewed government intervention comes amid increasing concerns over the persistent clashes between farmers and herders, which have destabilized communities in Benue and neighboring states. The president’s directive signals a commitment to ending the cycle of violence and fostering reconciliation for sustainable peace.
