One hundred youths from Bayelsa State have graduated from a building construction-based skills acquisition training at the site of the ongoing construction of iconic 9-storey Civil Servant Secretariat building at Ovom, Yenagoa.
The on-the-site training offered by contractor to the job, MEGASTAR Construction Company through its site workers and facilitated by the State Ministry of Youth Development and Ministry of Works and Infrastructure covered hands-on skills as masonry, carpentry, scaffolding, and iron bending/steel fixing.

The one-month training was deliberately designed as a practical hands-on programme, immersing participants in real construction processes and equipping them with industry-ready skills.

Some of the graduates have been engaged by MEGASTAR for this project and others would be considered for future projects.
Representatives of MEGASTAR and The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) commended the trainees for their commitment and expressed confidence that their skills will create new opportunities and benefit their communities.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Alfred Kemepado, who congratulated the graduating youths, described their achievement as a demonstration of the government’s vision to create a new generation of skilled Bayelsans who can drive development from within.
Mr. Kemepado noted that the training was designed to bridge critical gaps in the construction industry in the state and that such initiatives would drastically reduce capital flight, ensuring that major projects are executed by homegrown skilled workers rather than external contractors.
