Yenagoa, Bayelsa State –Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, today presided over the 38th State Security Council meeting, sending a clear and unequivocal message: the state will maintain a “zero tolerance” stance against crime and criminality. The meeting, held at Government House, Yenagoa, saw Governor Diri not only reiterate his administration’s firm resolve but also significantly bolster the operational capacity of security agencies with the formal presentation of 31 new security vehicles.

The impressive fleet of vehicles, a tangible demonstration of the government’s commitment, was presented to service commanders, marking a substantial boost to their efforts in maintaining peace and order across the state. This proactive measure comes as part of Governor Diri’s consistent drive to enhance security infrastructure and empower those on the front lines.
In his opening remarks, Governor Diri lauded the existing synergy and collaboration among the various security agencies, as well as their effective partnership with the state government. “The synergy and collaboration that have existed even among the security agencies and overall between the security agencies and the government of the state is what has stood us out separately,” Governor Diri stated. He urged for the continuation of this vital relationship, emphasizing that his administration’s mantra of “Zero Tolerance To Crime and Criminality” would remain unwavering and non-politicized.
A significant aspect of Governor Diri’s address was his stern warning to the political class against interfering in criminal investigations or arrests. “Crime has no face of PDP and APC; a criminal is a criminal,” he asserted, forcefully declaring, “let no political high-ranking person intervene when a criminal is involved.” The Governor went further, charging security personnel to report any such attempts at intervention directly to him, urging them to “treat whoever has committed a crime as a criminal and let him face the law.” He underscored that this resolute approach is the only way to effectively stamp out crime and criminality not just in Bayelsa State, but across Nigeria.
Today’s meeting underscores the Diri administration’s proactive and decisive approach to security. By investing in vital resources and fostering an environment of accountability and non-interference, Bayelsa State is setting a strong precedent in its ongoing battle against crime. The provision of these 31 vehicles is expected to significantly enhance patrol capabilities, rapid response times, and overall operational efficiency of security agencies, further strengthening the state’s security architecture.
