A Badagry mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Akinosi, is calling for justice following the controversial death of her 17-year-old son, Anjolaoluwa Akinosi, who died while under the care of a private doctor in Lagos.
According to Mrs. Akinosi, her son was healthy before he began working as a trainee under Dr. Usman Oloyede Raimi, a private medical practitioner along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Anjolaoluwa had recently started training as an auxiliary nurse and was asked by Dr. Raimi to accompany his son—allegedly a doctor from LUTH—to Ikorodu for the setup of a new hospital.
The teenager left home on Friday, June 13, and maintained regular contact with his mother until Monday morning. By Monday afternoon, Mrs. Akinosi noticed a drastic change in her son’s voice, describing him as weak. Later that day, his phone became unreachable. After unsuccessful attempts to contact Dr. Raimi, she visited his office on Tuesday, only to be told her son had been diagnosed with malaria and typhoid, and later developed a stomach inflammation requiring surgery.
Mrs. Akinosi was shocked to learn her son had been admitted to Badagry General Hospital—not Ikorodu, as she believed. She was informed he was recovering, but was later told, without prior notice, that he had died. She did not learn of his death until days later, by which time his body had been moved to a mortuary without her consent.
Distraught, Mrs. Akinosi has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the National Human Rights Commission, and civil rights organizations to intervene. She insists her son showed no signs of illness before the trip and questions the circumstances of his death.
Mrs. Akinosi also claims that although arrests were made, those involved were released without explanation. Efforts to contact Dr. Raimi for his account were unsuccessful at press time. Police have not yet issued an official statement.
“This is not just about my son, Anjolaoluwa. It’s about justice. It’s about making sure no other mother—especially a widow like me—suffers this kind of pain and injustice,” Mrs. Akinosi stated.
The community awaits further updates as authorities are urged to investigate the matter thoroughly.
