​Badagry Job Scam Smashed

​LAGOS — Security operatives have busted a major suspected employment fraud syndicate operating in the Ajara Topa area of Badagry, Lagos State, detaining 19 individuals in a coordinated raid.

​The joint operation, executed by the Nigeria Police Force and the Badagry Joint Task Force (JTF), took place at Yemat Close. The crackdown followed a discrete intelligence gathering mission sparked by a victim’s harrowing report.

​Among those currently in custody are three foreign nationals—two from the Democratic Republic of Congo and one from the Republic of Benin. Detectives are working to establish the extent of each suspect’s involvement.

​Lured by Lies

​The syndicate’s operations began to unravel after a young man from Benue State lodged a distress complaint with the authorities. Attracted to Lagos by the promise of a lucrative job, the victim’s expectations were shattered upon arrival.

​Instead of employment, he was slapped with a demand for ₦1.3 million as a condition for the job. Sounding the alarm over his treatment and the highly suspicious activities within the facility, he prompted the decisive security intervention.

​Investigation Underway

​A senior police source confirmed that all 19 occupants found at the suspected recruitment fortress were taken into custody for profiling and interrogation.

​”Detectives are currently unravelling the full scope of this operation. We are working to identify other potential victims and determine if this network is tied to a wider, organised transnational criminal syndicate,” the official stated.

​A Growing Menace

​This latest bust highlights a disturbing surge in fraudulent recruitment networks across Nigeria. These syndicates systematically prey on vulnerable, desperate job seekers by dangling fake employment opportunities, only to extort massive sums of money under false pretences.

​The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public of a meticulous investigation, vowing that all culpable individuals will face the full weight of the law. Authorities have also strongly urged job seekers to thoroughly vet employment offers through official channels and treat any job demand for upfront payments as an immediate red flag.
