The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, has appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to address the long-standing issue of unpaid earned academic and promotional allowances owed to staff since 2014, amounting to N1.7 billion.
During a press conference held at the ASUU house at the Taraba State University, Dr. Garba Mbave, the Chairperson of the Union, expressed concern over the prolonged delay in the payment of their withheld salaries, which has caused financial strain and uncertainty among members.
Mbave emphasized that the non-payment of promotion arrears and salaries not only affects the financial well-being of staff but also undermines morale and trust in the institution’s fairness and integrity.
He highlighted the potential consequences of these issues on industrial harmony and the productivity of the university workforce, urging the government to prioritize the prompt payment of outstanding allowances and salaries.

The accumulation of unpaid allowances since 2014 has led to discontent and frustration among academic staff, exacerbating grievances within the university community.
Mbave stressed the urgency of addressing these issues and called for decisive action from the government.
He also pointed out the absence of a pension scheme for staff, which contributes to financial insecurity and underscores the need for immediate intervention.
While acknowledging the governor’s efforts in renovating students’ hostels and reducing fees for undergraduate students, ASUU urged the government to take decisive action on outstanding allowances, withheld salaries, promotional arrears, and the construction of a perimeter fence for the university.
