Residents and business owners around WiseBuyers Supermarket in Arepo, Ogun State, were thrown into panic on Monday night after an out-of-control truck rammed into a distribution transformer’s high-tension electricity line.
The late-night accident shattered two critical concrete utility poles and left live electrical wires dangling perilously close to the ground. The impact caused one of the primary poles to lean at a hazardous angle, creating an immediate danger for motorists, pedestrians, and nearby commercial hubs.
In response to the threat, the Arepo Area Community Development Council’s Electricity Committee issued an urgent safety advisory on Tuesday. Akinlolu Akinpelumi, the committee’s secretary, warned locals to steer clear of the impact zone.
”We strongly advise everyone to stay away from the damaged poles and all fallen or hanging electrical cables,” Akinpelumi stated, cautioning citizens against attempting to move, touch, or drive over the compromised equipment.

The incident has since been escalated to Ikeja Electric, the franchise utility provider serving the axis. Technical teams have been mobilized to isolate the lines and initiate emergency repair works to mitigate safety risks. Consequently, power supply to areas dependent on the WiseBuyers distribution transformer will remain interrupted until the infrastructure is fully restored.
Authorities have urged residents to maintain calm, cooperate with technical responders, and report any secondary hazards observed around the neighborhood as remedial operations continue.
