Apostle Chikere Nwafor, founder of Heaven’s Gateway Ministries, faces accusations from ex-husband Martin Ogbulu of shipping a Lexus RX450h from the UK to Nigeria and falsely reporting it stolen to claim nearly £17,000 from insurers. Ogbulu recounted noticing the car’s usual parking spot empty, with Nwafor casually claiming cousins borrowed it for a family event, which he initially believed. Weeks later, after she urgently coached him on insurer calls while in Nigeria, he confirmed to them no vehicle was present, unknowingly aiding her claim; he later realized the truth upon learning of the payout and saw photos of the same car in Nigeria.

Church Caretaker’s Prolonged Detention
Nwafor allegedly orchestrated the April 2025 arrest of longtime caretaker Alfred Morris Oyawari over missing building materials at the Ibeju-Lekki church site, where he supervised projects since 2018 for ₦40,000 monthly despite remote COVID-era management. Oyawari remains in Ikoyi Prison as of January 2026, with Ogbulu claiming influence caused court delays and release conditioned on relatives pledging no lawsuit against her. Ogbulu described it as part of a pattern targeting vulnerable Nigerians through power in the justice system.

Broader Fraud and Property Disputes
Ogbulu accuses Nwafor of diverting over £100,000 in UK church building deposits from groups like Church of God Mission and a Ghanaian prophet, refunding minimally despite deal failures, and pocketing higher lease rents like £10,000 monthly from RCCG while lying to trustees. He alleges forgery of documents for their joint Amen Estate, Lagos house, omitting his name despite shared funding, confirmed fake after paying a surveyor ₦1.2 million. Further claims include death threats, police harassment over her boyfriend, and personal misconduct amid their divorce.
Failed Responses and Ongoing Fallout
Nwafor has not responded to SaharaReporters’ repeated comment requests on these allegations, including the Lexus incident reported January 8, 2026. Ogbulu provided photos proving the car’s relocation and warns of her manipulative networks. Social media echoes the story, amplifying calls for accountability in religious leadership.
