Political economist and public affairs commentator, Professor Pat Utomi, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of taking Nigeria backwards, citing economic decline and the loss of purchasing power as he urged voters to reject the party in the 2027 general elections.
The Utomi APC taking Nigeria backwards indictment was delivered during a recent public address, where he warned that the country was drifting dangerously toward the precipice under the current administration, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE INDICTMENT
Utomi did not mince words. “Propagandising the illusion of progress has clearly not worked. Stabilisation policies have as a goal enabling debt repayment. It was achieved with SAP but ruined education and healthcare where we had made significant gains. They are doing it again,” he said.
He argued that the country was falling deeper into debt, describing the borrowing pattern as a “debt Ponzi scheme”. “Misery dominates our land. Widows are crushed by the burden of survival, children are eating off trash bins and multitudes are homeless and battling mental health consequences of our misery index,” he added.
THE POLITICAL WARNING
Utomi said the APC was afraid of the electorate because it knew the pain Nigerians were enduring.
“But the one thing the APC doesn’t want to see is the vote of the people. It does not. Because it knows that the pain in the country, the disaffection that has come from how poorly the people live,” he said.
He called on Nigerians to join hands to save the country from descent into anarchy, warning that continued suppression of the electorate could provoke serious consequences.
WHY IT MATTERS
Utomi’s intervention is a significant escalation in the opposition’s rhetoric against the Tinubu administration.
He is not merely criticising policies. He is accusing the government of deliberately inflicting pain on Nigerians while enriching itself and its allies. He is also warning that the 2027 election may not be free and fair, and that Nigerians must be prepared to defend their votes.
For the APC, the statement is a challenge. For voters, it is a call to action. And for Nigeria, it is another sign that the 2027 election will be fought on the terrain of economic hardship and political accountability. ValidViewNetwork reports.
