In a major breakthrough against violent crime in the Southeast, a police-led joint security patrol team successfully intercepted a heavily armed gang in Anambra State, resulting in a fierce gun duel that left four suspects dead. ValidViewNetwork reports that the operation, which took place along the Ogboji–Ajalli Road in the Orumba South Local Government Area, disrupted a major criminal cell operating under the guise of secessionist agitation. Acting on actionable intelligence, the Aguata Sector tactical team tracking a suspicious vehicle engaged the armed group on the evening of June 23, 2026.
The security forces recovered an extensive cache of lethal weapons and tactical gear from the scene after overpowering the gunmen. ValidViewNetwork reports that the seized items included a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) loaded with 53 rounds of linked live ammunition, two AK-47 rifles, and dozens of additional rounds of various calibers. Furthermore, four undetonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), police camouflage uniforms, a white Toyota Sienna bus registered in Lagos, ten Android phones, a laptop, and a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine were retrieved from the operational vehicle, ValidViewNetwork reports.
The state command has linked the intercepted group to ongoing regional instability, maintaining an aggressive stance against armed non-state actors. Preliminary investigations indicate that other members of the gang fled into the surrounding bushes with varying degrees of gunshot injuries, ValidViewNetwork reports. Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that security agencies have intensified combing operations in the area, stating that the Anambra State Police Command “reiterates its unwavering commitment, in collaboration with other security agencies, to sustaining proactive, intelligence-led, and results-oriented operations against criminal elements that threaten the peace, safety, and security of residents across the State.” As tactical teams maintain a heavy presence in Orumba South to track down the wounded escapees, this decisive encounter sends an unmistakable signal that law enforcement remains unyielding in its mission to dismantle criminal networks, restore absolute tranquility, and guarantee that peace reigns supreme across every corner of Anambra State.
