Nigerian sprint icon Tobi Amusan has officially punched her ticket to the 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final, maintaining her status as a global force in the women’s 100m hurdles.
The world record holder successfully navigated a highly competitive season, accumulating 28 points across five Diamond League meetings to secure her spot in the season-ending showdown. The prestigious final is set to take place on September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium, where Amusan will aim to clinch her fourth Diamond League title.
Amusan’s path to the final has been defined by remarkable consistency. Throughout the 2026 circuit, she has repeatedly demonstrated her elite caliber, including a standout performance at the Eugene Diamond League in July where she clocked a season’s best time of 12.34 seconds. This follows a year of high-stakes competition, including her successful defense of the African Athletics Championship title in Accra this past May, where she struck gold for the third consecutive time.
The Brussels final promises to be a thriller, centered on the intensifying rivalry between Amusan and American Olympic champion Masai Russell. Russell currently leads the Diamond League standings with 32 points and holds the world’s fastest time this year at 12.14 seconds—a mark she set at the Xiamen Diamond League in May, narrowly missing Amusan’s world record of 12.12 seconds.
With both athletes scheduled to appear at remaining meetings in London, Lausanne, Silesia, and Zurich, the lead-up to Brussels is expected to serve as a high-octane prelude to the championship final.
For Amusan, the upcoming final is more than just a race; it is an opportunity to reclaim her throne. Having won three consecutive Diamond League crowns between 2021 and 2023, the Nigerian star is looking to add another golden chapter to her illustrious career in Belgium.
