Alhaja Kafilat Kaola, a prominent female Islamic cleric and school proprietor, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Facility in Ilorin, Kwara State, following a defamation lawsuit filed by Alfa Taofeek Akeugbagold, a well-known Islamic preacher and Wazeer Muslimeen of Oyo State.
The case centers on allegations that Alhaja Kaola made defamatory statements against Alfa Akeugbagold, causing reputational harm.
During Monday’s court session, Kaola’s lawyer requested bail on the grounds of her public status and assurance she would not abscond, but the request was opposed by the plaintiff’s counsel, who cited a viral video showing Kaola allegedly disparaging a judge and a lawyer in a prior legal matter.
The magistrate ruled to remand her until the next hearing scheduled for July 17, 2025. This legal battle is part of a longstanding public dispute between the two religious figures, which has attracted significant attention in Islamic and public circles.
