Akure, Ondo State – Akure, the vibrant capital of Ondo State, today marked a significant milestone as its monarch, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, the Deji of Akure, celebrated his 10th coronation anniversary. The event was lauded by Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, who commended the Deji for a decade of exemplary leadership characterized by peace, unity, and substantial contributions to the development of Akure and the wider state.

The commendation came during a grand homage parade and award presentation held at Democracy Park in Akure. Governor Aiyedatiwa, addressing a distinguished gathering, congratulated the Deji and the people of Akure Kingdom on this “momentous occasion,” praising the monarch’s unwavering commitment to state development over the past ten years.
Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted Oba Aladelusi’s consistent support for successive administrations, describing his reign as “peaceful and development-driven.” He stated, “Your Imperial Majesty, your reign has been marked by significant achievements, particularly in promoting peace, unity, and cultural preservation. One of the most important things I must acknowledge is the consistent support you have given to the government in power over the last decade to ensure peace and calmness in Akure Kingdom.”

Strategic Role of Traditional Institutions
The Governor acknowledged the pivotal role of traditional institutions in governance, expressing appreciation for the Deji’s collaboration with the state government, especially during his tenure as the immediate past Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas.
“Akure, being the state capital and seat of government, has greatly benefited from your visionary leadership. Your collaboration with the state government is legendary and your contributions to governance and community development are invaluable,” Governor Aiyedatiwa affirmed.
Affectionately referred to as a “Friend of Akure” by the Deji, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the infrastructural and economic advancement of Akure. “We recognize the importance of Akure and have initiated various developmental projects to align the city with its counterparts across the Southwest. We will continue to prioritize its growth and appeal to all sons and daughters of Akure Kingdom to partner with us in this mission,” he added.
Honoring Akure’s Own
Mr. Olufemi Meshe, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the anniversary, explained that the day’s events were designed to chronicle the Deji’s remarkable journey over the past decade and to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Akure Kingdom.
The ceremony also saw prominent Akure indigenes recognized with community development awards for their significant contributions. Among those honored were the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande; the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan; and Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement (Central), Mr. Femi Fadairo.
Other distinguished recipients included the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji; legal luminaries Mr. Eyitayo Jegede and Mr. Ifedayo Adedipe, SAN; political figures Senator Tayo Alasoadura and Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde (Abena); and notable personalities such as Mrs. Omolola Bayode, Mr. Olumide Origunloye, Mr. Femi Meshe, Prof. Daramola Adamolekun, and Prof. Adenike Osofisan.


The event underscored the unity and progress that have characterized Akure under Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi’s leadership, setting a positive tone for the future development of the state capital.
