Abuja, Nigeria – The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has officially announced the appointment of renowned journalist Yomi Odunuga as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity. The appointment, which was confirmed in a statement released today, takes immediate effect.

Until his new role, Mr. Odunuga served as a Deputy Editor with The Nation Newspaper, where he was responsible for conducting special interviews and writing insightful analytical articles.
Yomi Odunuga’s distinguished journalism career spans over 27 years, beginning at The Punch newspapers as a Proof Reader. He rose through the ranks at The Punch, becoming its Abuja Bureau Chief and Deputy Editor (Nation’s Capital), where he was well-known for his columns “Life in Abuja” and “Inside Aso Rock.” His sharp analysis of the political landscape led to his promotion to Group Political Editor of The Punch in 2006.

He later joined THE NATION newspaper as an Assistant Editor and Bureau Chief in Abuja, where his popular column, “Knuckles,” was rebranded as “Knucklehead,” continuing his weekly critique of socio-political developments.

Before this latest appointment, Odunuga served as the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, to the Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, from 2019 to 2023.
After completing his four-year tenure at the National Assembly, he returned to The Nation newspapers.
This appointment underscores Senator Akume’s commitment to effective communication, leveraging Mr. Odunuga’s extensive experience and deep understanding of Nigeria’s media and political landscape.
