Air Peace Flights Disrupted After Ground Collision at Lagos Airport

​Flight operations for Air Peace across its domestic network face significant disruptions following a ground incident at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (MMA1) in Lagos, where one of its Airbus A320 aircraft sustained severe damage.

​The incident occurred on Tuesday night after the aircraft had completed flight P47427 from Kano and successfully disembarked its passengers. According to the airline, a baggage conveyor belt vehicle operated by the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) Plc collided with the aircraft’s engine, rendering it “totally unserviceable”.

​Sources familiar with the development indicated that the operator of the baggage conveyor belt vehicle reportedly suffered a medical emergency, causing the equipment to veer into the aircraft.

​In an official statement, Air Peace expressed regret over the incident, noting that the affected aircraft had been scheduled for multiple flights across its network in the coming days. The airline cautioned passengers that the resulting fleet shortage would lead to flight delays and potential cancellations while it works to reorganize its operations.

​“We sincerely apologise to our esteemed passengers whose travel plans may be affected by this unforeseen ground handling incident,” the airline stated. “Our operational and customer service teams are actively working to minimise the inconvenience by providing available alternatives and ensuring that affected passengers receive the necessary assistance”.

​Air Peace confirmed that it is working closely with aviation authorities and NAHCO to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision to prevent future occurrences. As of press time, NAHCO had not issued an official response regarding the incident.

​This latest event follows a history of similar ground-handling challenges involving the two companies, including a notable incident in December 2025 where NAHCO equipment similarly damaged an Air Peace aircraft.
