Rescued pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area may reunite with their families today, Monday, after military observation, ValidViewNetwork reports.
The victims regained freedom on Friday after spending 56 days in captivity.
Victims receive medical care
ValidViewNetwork reports that the victims have received medical treatment and psychosocial support in Ibadan.
They are staying at the Headquarters of the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services, Odogbo Barracks.
Governor Seyi Makinde visited the victims on Saturday.
He said they would remain under medical observation for 48 hours.
Makinde explains transfer plan
Makinde said, “Our plan right now is to watch them over the next 48 hours.”
He added, “By Monday, we think an assessment will be done.”
He also said, “Maybe there’ll be a formal transfer from the military to the state.”
According to him, the state would then manage the process from that point forward.
Families prepare for reunion
ValidViewNetwork reports that the state government has started arrangements to reunite the victims with their families.
Makinde said some children repeatedly asked to see their parents after regaining freedom.
He said, “There’s a small girl in there who basically has been asking, ‘Where’s my mom?’”
He added that officials were arranging transportation for family members to visit the children.
Parents wait anxiously
In Ogbomoso, several parents spent Sunday in prayer houses.
Among them were Deborah Oyesola, Adesola Akano, and Prof Wole Alamu.
They said they were waiting for the military’s formal handover of the victims to the Oyo State Government.
According to a source, Prof Alamu arrived in Ibadan on Sunday night.
The source said he hoped to see his wife, Mrs Rachael Alamu, after her release, ValidViewNetwork reports.
How the abduction happened
The expected reunion comes two days after the Federal Government announced the victims’ successful rescue.
Gunmen abducted the pupils and teachers on May 15.
The attackers invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota.
They also attacked L.A. Primary School and Community Grammar School, Ahoro Esienle.
All three schools are in Oriire Local Government Area.
Next phase after handover
The victims are expected to complete medical evaluation and psychosocial support before the handover.
The military is expected to transfer them formally to the Oyo State Government.
