Abuja – The newly established African Democratic Congress (ADC) has emphatically stated its commitment to democratically unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. The party, which positions itself as a rising opposition coalition, affirmed its stance in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by Bolaji Abdullahi, its interim National Publicity Secretary and spokesperson for the opposition coalition.
Abdullahi’s declaration came in response to a tweet from Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who had accused the opposition of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government before 2027.
Categorically refuting the accusation, Abdullahi stated, “We are not soldiers; we are politicians. Our strength lies in ballots, not bullets.” He described Onanuga’s allegation as a “baseless and false narrative aimed to clamp down on opposition leaders and activities under the guise of national security.”
The ADC spokesman emphasized that the health and vitality of Nigeria’s democracy depend on a free, open, and competitive political environment. He reaffirmed the ADC’s unwavering dedication to fostering a better Nigeria through peaceful and active democratic participation, urging Nigerians to reject any attempts to discredit the opposition.
