OWO, NIGERIA — A massive financial scandal has rocked Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, following revelations that 320 students were allegedly defrauded of a staggering ₦457,508,645 in school fees over three consecutive academic sessions.
The alleged fraud, which spans the 2023/2024, 2024/2025, and the current 2025/2026 academic brackets, has thrown the institution into turmoil, leaving affected students stranded and parents demanding immediate accountability.
The Scheme Exposed
According to emerging reports, the multi-million Naira scam was orchestrated through a systematic manipulation of the university’s payment protocol. The affected students reportedly bypassed the official institutional channels and deposited their tuition fees directly into a personal bank account belonging to an individual identified as Olanike Mary Asabia.
Inquiries reveal that many of the victims were lured into the trap by tempting offers of discounted tuition rates, while others were allegedly compromised through promises of financial commissions for bringing in fellow students.
Despite the funds never reaching the university’s official coffers, the suspect allegedly possessed the technical clearance to access the institution’s portal and clear the defaulting students, effectively masking the massive financial leak for years.
Parents Demand Answers, Probe Begins
The bubble burst recently when discrepancies in the institution’s financial records exposed the multi-session fraud, throwing the academic status of the 320 involved students into jeopardy. The development has triggered widespread panic and outrage among parents, who are now asking hard questions about the institutional lapses that allowed a personal account to override the university’s portal system.
Angry parents and stakeholders are questioning the current whereabouts of Olanike Mary Asabia, urging management and law enforcement agencies to track her down. There are also mounting calls for an exhaustive internal and external investigation to determine if internal IT staff or high-ranking university officials colluded with the suspect to facilitate the illegal portal clearances.
As pressure mounts on the management of Achievers University, Owo, regulatory bodies and security agencies are being urged to intervene swiftly to protect the integrity of the educational system and recover the missing millions.
