Nigeria @ 63: A Prosperous, Great Nation Is Possible With President Tinubu – Labour Party
…Warns Obi on divisive statements
As the country celebrates its 63rd independence anniversary, the Labour Party under the Leadership of Ag National Chairman Alh Bashiru Lamidi Apapa has Congratulated all Nigerians for witnessing “this great day despite the series of challenges facing us as a nation.
The Alh Bashiru Lamidi Apapa-led National Working Committee of the Labour in an independence message signed by Dr Abayomi Arabambi, National Publicity Secretary, said the Party is aware that truly, Nigeria had faced challenges as a nation like every other nation, ranging from brutal Military Regimes down to the current Civil Rule marred by fledgling democracy since 1999
“Nigeria had faced ups and downs in trying to unite the heterogeneous people scattered in various tribes that made up her composition, with much or less progress recorded depending on which angle we looked into it.
“Nigeria passed trying moments of war, protests, riots, dictatorship, terrorism and political instability caused by various sectional interests in trying to strengthen and unite the country, yet she remained strong.
“Nigeria’s challenges did not start today, several inconsistent policies and programmes have been formulated and deployed, though with or without much benefits to the nation, but the truth remains that Nigeria always overcomes her challenges.
“Though our political system is bedevilled by lots of backward indices and insecurity, we are still committed to refining and reforming our fledgling democracy.
“The current economic challenges are part of the situations we found ourselves in as a people in the time past, they did not just start today, but we strongly believe that with our perseverance, dedication, commitment and patriotism, we shall overcome all and bounce back stronger as a country. We have strong leaders who will galvanize resources to make Nigeria a stronger and more developed country.
“As the problem of Nigeria was not caused by either the present president or any particular past leader, we appeal to Nigerians to be patient, patriotic and faithful to God for a better Nigeria under the Current Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Administration.
“Labour party noted with joy six definite measures being instituted by the president and commander in chief of armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his Independence Day speech, to redress the situation and ease the pain in Nigerians inter-Alia
- N25,000 additional wage for all workers
- Disbursement of relief funds to states for Infrastructure Support Fund to provide relief packages against the impact of rising food and other prices.
- Lowering Transport Costs through the deployment of cheaper, safer Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses across the nation. These buses will operate at a fraction of current fuel prices, positively affecting transport fares.
- Opportunities for entrepreneurs through the setting up of training facilities and workshops across the nation to train and provide new opportunities for transport operators and entrepreneurs.
- CBN Housecleaning through monetary policy that I’ll be for the benefit of all and not the exclusive province of the powerful and wealthy.”
- Cash Transfer to vulnerable households
“We therefore appeal to those who lost in elections to remain peaceful, calm and resolute towards maintaining peace and order to ensure the security of lives and property in our cherished and loved country, Nigeria.
“Our special appeal also goes to the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress to be partners in progress and not enemies of democracy.
“Incessant strike action will never resolve the issues confronting the nation, rather it will worsen them.
“Our Party’s particular appeal goes to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) under the Leadership of Mr. Joe Ajero to put the interests of Nigeria first, instead of acting as a political wing of Mr Peter Obi’s destructive political machinery for grounding the nation, in his expression of grievances about election loss.
“Mr. Joe Ajaero a full member of the Labour Party National Executive Council (NEC) will do well to disconnect the Nigerian Workers’ interest from the unhealthy, divisive and pervasive ambition of our Party’s Former Presidential Candidate Mr. Peter Gregory Obi’s fraudulent and hot pursuit of destabilization of Nigeria State
“Gone are the days when we criticise the government for criticism’s sake, Nigeria has come to an age of, rather than criticising, we will rather sit at a round table to proffer solutions to our challenges, as jaw-jaw is better than war-war.
“Nigeria is our only constituency and should be made to move forward irrespective of our political affiliations and differences.
“Let us put Nigeria first with our positive resolve to move the nation forward.
With understanding, we can work in patriotism to rebuild the nation in line with the renewed hope agenda of the present government of Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR).
Let all hands be on deck for us to make concerted efforts towards nation-building.
We may not have achieved much in our 63 years of existence, but we hope to achieve more with time. Nigeria is not yet there, but hopefully, we shall be there soon as exemplified by the fair commitment of President Tinubu to all facets of our dear nation’s Economy
Part of Our pleas to Nigerians is also to remain resolute and persevere as nothing good comes easy and with dedication and hard work, we shall one day get to our promised land.
We will also call on all leaders to inject better and workable ideas on ways to propel the country into the dream of all.
No country that relies on only consumption thrives better, we must go back to the days when we feed other nations through agriculture and an export-dependent Economy
We are spoilt Children of God, as the Creator has given us all the things needed for our survival, but lack of focus, less dedication and other teething issues seem to be our albatross.
We, therefore plead that the policy formulators look inward and come out with workable policies that will maximally engage our teeming youths and reduce unemployment in the country.
Finally, the two times supreme Court recognised the National Chairman of the Labour Party ALH Lamidi Apapa and the National Working Committee on behalf of the National Executives Council of our Great Party rejoices with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Government and the people of Nigeria on the occasion of our 63rd Independence Anniversary
Labour party also wishes:
