Medical reports now in circulation show that El-Rufai tested positive for drug-resistant bacteria, a development that raises a possible sepsis concern.
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been diagnosed with an infection involving “Enterococcus faecium”, according to laboratory and medical reports dated 16 and 22 October 2026.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the documents are being read as a serious health warning.
WHAT THE LAB REPORT SAYS
The laboratory report found the bacterium in a blood culture and described it as a vancomycin-resistant enterococcus (VRE).
The 16 October document was marked an interim report pending final verification. It identified the organism after 24 to 48 hours of incubation.
Vancomycin is a last-line antibiotic for many resistant infections, so resistance narrows treatment options.
THE MEDICAL REPORT
A separate report dated 22 October, from ASK Medical and Diagnostics, described him as a 66-year-old man with dyslipidaemia, persistent headaches, insomnia, dizziness and low blood pressure.
It also stated that the other available results fell within reference ranges while highlighting the positive blood culture.
A bloodstream infection can progress to sepsis, which explains the concern.
ValidViewNetwork has not independently verified that any document formally diagnoses sepsis.
A CONTESTED MEDICAL PAPER TRAIL
Health claims have been fiercely disputed in this case.
In July, a Kaduna court dismissed a bail application after the National Hospital disowned the medical report behind it. The court still ordered the ICPC to give him unrestricted access to his personal physicians and escort him to any specialist facility he chooses.
His trial in Kaduna was adjourned on 12 October after he missed court over a request to see his personal doctor about test results.
ValidViewNetwork can confirm that no court has ruled on the October reports.
THE TRIAL
On Monday, 26 October, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed his no-case submission and ordered him to enter his defence if he wishes.
The case concerns the alleged unlawful interception of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu’s phone communications. He also faces a corruption trial in Kaduna and has pleaded not guilty.

Section 36(5) of the Constitution presumes every accused person innocent until proven guilty. Custody also carries a duty of care.
The El-Rufai drug-resistant bacteria reports test how the ICPC and the courts handle both. Neither the ICPC nor his legal team has publicly responded to the documents. ValidViewNetwork reports.
