Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has dismissed ongoing diplomatic efforts with the United States as entirely “meaningless,” asserting that past negotiations have consistently served as a precursor to renewed military assaults.
Speaking through state media, Pezeshkian pointed to a pattern of broken commitments, highlighting that Iran has faced three separate military strikes immediately following diplomatic engagements. According to the Iranian leadership, these actions demonstrate that Washington’s true objective is regime change rather than a peaceful resolution.
The broader regional conflict escalated earlier this year following surprise strikes by the US and Israel. Although both sides initially agreed to a framework for permanent peace in June, persistent maritime skirmishes in the strategic Strait of Hormuz have repeatedly derailed progress.
While Washington has recently shifted toward economic pressure—holding off on direct airstrikes since early September—indirect discussions on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly have yielded no breakthroughs. Reaffirming Tehran’s position, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi maintained that the crisis cannot be solved through military force or economic sanctions, insisting that any viable resolution must be rooted entirely in justice and fairness.
