As Nigeria marks its 66th independence anniversary, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has declared that true national sovereignty remains incomplete without total liberation from poverty, insecurity, illiteracy, and disease.
In an Independence Day statement issued in Abuja by its National Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, the council emphasized that after 66 years of nationhood and 27 years of unbroken democratic governance, citizens deserve tangible dividends of democracy rather than mere political rhetoric.
Dantalle noted that while the country has successfully weathered civil war, military dictatorships, and various socio-economic crises, governance must now shift focus toward guaranteeing the primary welfare and security of the populace as stipulated by the 1999 Constitution.
Looking ahead to the upcoming 2027 general elections, IPAC called on the electorate to actively participate and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a level playing field characterized by transparent, credible, and inclusive processes. Reaffirming the unyielding resilience of the Nigerian spirit, the council appealed to citizens to maintain faith in the country’s collective potential to build a prosperous democratic future.
