The traditional ruler of Otan-Ayegbaju in Boluwaduro Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Lukman Adesola Ojo-Fadipe, has made an urgent appeal to Governor Ademola Adeleke to rescue the fast-deteriorating Otan-Ayegbaju–Ila-Orangun road from total collapse.
Making the plea during an on-the-spot assessment of the route, the monarch warned that severe erosion and flooding have compromised critical portions of the highway, which serves as a vital economic artery connecting travelers to Ikirun, Osogbo, and neighboring northern states including Kogi, Benue, and Abuja.
Oba Ojo-Fadipe specifically highlighted vulnerable spots such as the Oke-Ola section—where the bridge structure is reportedly caving in from beneath—alongside the high-risk Akerekete and Popogbooro axes. Echoing these concerns, transport union representatives and community leaders, including the President of the Otan-Ayegbaju Progressive Union (OAPU), Aare Adetunji Mosebolatan, stressed that parts of the road have shrunk to a single lane due to heavy downpours.
Stakeholders have urged the state government to immediately deploy emergency intervention teams to the corridor to avert fatal accidents and prevent a total halt in vehicular movement between the communities.
