Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has resigned from office ahead of a snap parliamentary election in which he plans to seek the country’s prime ministerial position.
ValidViewNetwork reports that Vučić submitted his resignation on Sunday, ending his second and final five-year presidential term.
The October 25 election comes after months of student-led protests that have posed a significant political challenge to his government
.Vučić has dominated Serbian politics either as president or prime minister since 2014. His resignation creates a major political transition while allowing him to seek another route to executive influence.
The election will determine the composition of Serbia’s parliament and, ultimately, the country’s next government. ValidViewNetwork reports.
