Police Arrest Suspect in Armed Robbery Outside Abule Egba Nightclub Caught on CCTV

LAGOS – Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one member of a three-man armed robbery gang that attacked clubgoers outside Ghost and Spirit Nightclub (also referred to as Ghost and Spirit Lounge) in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 26 September 2026 (following events late on 25 September), outside the venue on Ekoro Road near Daleko Bus Stop. CCTV footage that later circulated widely on social media platforms shows two of the suspects blending in with a group of people sitting on car bonnets outside the club. One suspect paced nearby while another sat among the unsuspecting patrons. When a vehicle (reported as an SUV) stopped in the middle of the road, the suspects sprang into action, dispossessing the victims of their belongings. A third suspect emerged from the vehicle and opened fire, causing the clubgoers to scatter. One victim who could not escape quickly was robbed before the gang fled the scene. A gunshot is audible in the footage.

A subsequent video shared online shows police officers arresting one of the suspects and returning him to the club for identification and confirmation. The management of Ghost and Spirit also displayed footage of the arrested man on a projector inside the lounge so patrons could view it.

Charles Lawal, CEO of Ghost and Spirit Club, has been credited in community reports with assisting the swift response through the club’s CCTV system and local security measures. Social media posts circulating after the arrest noted that the same individual or similar operatives had allegedly targeted the same location about six months earlier, during which a victim was reportedly shot but survived. The club’s management has offered a ₦5 million reward for credible information that could help identify and apprehend other suspects involved in the repeated attacks on customers leaving the premises. One customer in the latest incident was reportedly robbed of a Cuban chain and other personal items.

As of the latest available reports, the Lagos State Police Command had not issued an official detailed statement confirming the full circumstances, any injuries, recovered items, or the status of the other two suspects. The swift use of CCTV evidence has been widely praised online for enabling the rapid identification and arrest. Residents and club patrons have expressed relief while calling for heightened security around nightlife spots in the Abule Egba–Ekoro axis, particularly in the early morning hours.
