ValidViewNetwork reports that Works Minister David Umahi has rejected claims that he has concentrated federal road projects in the South-East since assuming responsibility for the ministry.
Umahi said the federal government’s road interventions should be assessed across the country rather than through the number of projects located in his home region.
The minister’s position comes amid continuing political debate over the distribution of federal infrastructure projects under President Bola Tinubu.
ValidViewNetwork gathered from the Federal Ministry of Works that the administration has listed major road interventions across several regions, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano corridor, Benin-Asaba road and other strategic routes.
The ministry has also highlighted several South-East projects, including sections of the Enugu-Onitsha road and other federal corridors.
Umahi previously said the South-East had benefited from greater federal infrastructure attention while stressing that the region was no longer being left behind in federal road investment.
The dispute therefore centres less on whether federal projects exist in the South-East and more on whether the distribution amounts to preferential concentration.
Umahi’s response is that his responsibility is national and that the ministry’s project portfolio should be viewed on that wider basis. ValidViewNetwork reports.
