Olorunda To Establish Environmental Police As Ajose Reads Riot Act On Waste Dumping

​BADAGRY — In a fierce push to combat environmental degradation and curb the recurring threat of flooding, the Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, has read the riot act to residents over the indiscriminate dumping of refuse, declaring that the council’s patience has run out.

​Hon. Ajose handed down the stern warning while spearheading the September edition of the council’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise over the weekend. Leading from the front, the chairman, alongside his wife, Mrs. Folashade Ajose, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Bolaji Adele Solomon, and top council functionaries, joined sanitation workers to clear a massive, eye-sore heap of refuse illegally dumped by the roadside at Exodus Bus Stop, Ibiye, along the busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

​Expressing deep frustration over the persistent disregard for public health guidelines, the council boss underscored that indiscriminate waste disposal poses grave environmental and health dangers to communities within the LCDA, exacerbating ecological hazards like localized flooding during heavy downpours.

​As part of sweeping measures to enforce total compliance, Hon. Ajose announced that the local government is moving beyond rhetoric by establishing a dedicated environmental police unit. This specialized task force will be charged with constant surveillance, tracking down violators, and ensuring strict adherence to environmental laws across all communities.

​The chairman emphasized that the long arm of the law will catch up with offenders, maintaining that no individual—regardless of their social status, political affiliation, or standing in society—will be shielded from prosecution if found culpable of environmental sabotage.

​While reiterating his administration’s commitment to a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Ajose stressed that government interventions alone cannot single-handedly guarantee pristine surroundings. He called on residents to reciprocate the council’s infrastructural and public health drives by shunning roadside dumping and utilizing only approved waste disposal channels.
