Abuja gets its first self-service fuel station

ABUJA — Motorists in the Federal Capital Territory now have access to a new way of buying fuel, as Sunbeth Energies has launched Abuja’s first self-service filling station in the Wuse axis of the city.

This allows customers to pump their own petrol from start to finish.

ValidViewNetwork can confirm that the Wuse rollout builds on Sunbeth’s earlier deployment of the same model at its Ogba outlet in Lagos, where the company says it recorded a full month of successful transactions without any service downtime.

How the self-service process works

According to Sunbeth’s Chief Marketing Officer, Abiola Ameen, customers at the Wuse station select their required fuel quantity or value, complete payment, receive pump authorisation, dispense the fuel themselves, and get transaction confirmation once fuelling is complete.

Trained staff would on ground to guide first-time users through the process.

Betting on convenience and technology

ValidViewNetwork gathered that Sunbeth’s Managing Director, Lateef Abioye, framed the expansion as part of a broader conviction that Nigeria’s downstream retail sector will increasingly be shaped by technology and customer experience rather than the traditional attendant-operated model that has dominated the market for decades.
