After Years of Rivalry, KWAM 1 Finally Unites MC Oluomo and Tafa Sego

Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, has stepped outside the music stage and into the role of peacemaker, bringing together two powerful figures at the centre of a prolonged dispute within the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

KWAM 1 reportedly brokered a reconciliation between NURTW National President Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and the Lagos State chairman of the union, Mustapha Adekunle, also known as Tafa Sego.

The meeting ended with the two men publicly shaking hands as part of an effort to resolve their differences.

The significance of the intervention extends beyond the personalities involved.

The NURTW occupies an important position in Nigeria’s transport system, particularly in Lagos, where disputes within transport unions have historically attracted political and social attention.

A prolonged disagreement between influential figures in the union can therefore have consequences beyond personal relationships.

KWAM 1’s role is also unusual. The intervention demonstrates the influence that respected cultural figures can sometimes exercise outside their professional fields.

Musicians, traditional leaders, business figures and religious personalities have long served as informal intermediaries in Nigerian disputes, particularly where conventional political or institutional channels have failed to produce reconciliation.

The agreement, however, will ultimately be judged by what happens after the handshake.

A public reconciliation is a beginning, not proof that every underlying disagreement has disappeared.
