Tragedy in Delta: NDLEA Officer Drowns During Anti-Drug Operation

A drug enforcement operation in Delta State ended with the death of an NDLEA officer after a pursuit moved from land into the River Ethiope.

The incident reportedly occurred at Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government Area, where suspected drug offenders were being pursued.

According to reports from the community, one suspect jumped into the river while being taken towards the Ethiope River Bridge in an attempt to escape.

NDLEA officers reportedly entered the water in pursuit. One officer drowned and his body was later recovered, while another officer was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.

The suspects reportedly escaped through the river. The identities of the officers and suspects had not been publicly confirmed in the reports reviewed.
