Nigeria stands today at a defining crossroads, confronted by the urgent need to transform its vast youth population into a powerhouse of innovation, skills, and technological advancement. As the nation continues to grapple with policy instability and the widening gap between classroom learning and industrial realities, ValidViewNetwork is convening two of Africa’s most respected intellectual figures to interrogate one of Nigeria’s most consequential educational questions: Did the country abandon the very policy that could have unlocked its technological future?

Chief Tola Adeniyi and Emeritus Professor Michael Omolewa will feature as Distinguished Discussants at the Fourth Edition of the ValidViewNetwork Monthly Global Discourse, scheduled for Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (WAT). The event, which holds virtually and convenes every last Sunday of the month, will explore the compelling theme:

“The Lost Promise of 6‑3‑3‑4: Can Nigeria Still Recover Its Technological Vision?”

The Monthly Global Discourse is a signature civic platform designed to bridge the gap between knowledge and action by convening thought leaders whose insights shape public understanding, strengthen civic responsibility, and inspire national development.

The 6‑3‑3‑4 education system was once Nigeria’s most ambitious attempt to align schooling with technological growth, industrial relevance, and youth empowerment. It promised to produce technicians, innovators, and industry‑ready graduates. Yet decades later, Nigeria continues to struggle with unemployment, weak technical capacity, and a widening technological gap. This discourse seeks to examine whether Nigeria can reclaim, redesign, and re‑implement the original vision of 6‑3‑3‑4 to meet the demands of a rapidly changing global economy.

Chief Tola Adeniyi

Veteran journalist, cultural thinker, and national commentator with over five decades of influence in shaping Nigeria’s public consciousness. Beyond his celebrated media career, Chief Adeniyi taught in six schools, including a Government Technical College, giving him rare firsthand insight into Nigeria’s classroom realities, technical education challenges, and youth development needs. His ability to connect policy, culture, and public perception makes him uniquely positioned to illuminate why the 6‑3‑3‑4 vision faltered and how Nigeria can recover it.

Emeritus Professor Michael Omolewa

Globally respected historian of education, former Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Nigeria to UNESCO, and one of Africa’s most authoritative voices on educational policy, history, and reform. Prof. Omolewa’s scholarship on Nigeria’s educational evolution, his leadership at UNESCO, and his deep understanding of global best practices make him exceptionally suited to evaluate the strengths, failures, and future possibilities of the 6‑3‑3‑4 system. His perspective will help situate Nigeria’s educational challenges within both national and international contexts.

Anyone committed to Nigeria’s technological future and youth empowerment will find this discourse indispensable.

As Nigeria confronts the realities of a global economy driven by skills, innovation, and technology, the question of whether the nation can recover the lost promise of 6‑3‑3‑4 is no longer academic, it is existential. The insights of Chief Tola Adeniyi and Emeritus Professor Michael Omolewa promise to illuminate not only what went wrong, but what must urgently be done to reposition Nigeria for a future where its youth are creators, builders, and global competitors. This edition of the Monthly Global Discourse is not just a conversation; it is a national call to reflection, responsibility, and action.ValidViewNetwork platform is a platform where experts, professionals, policymakers, technocrats and citizens converge for solution-driven conversations on national and global issues.
