The latest chapter in the long-running Godswill Akpabio-Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan controversy has arrived not in the Senate chamber, but through a nine-minute audio recording.

Self-Styled Activist Sandra Duru, popularly known as Prof Mgbeke, released the purported recording online, presenting it as a conversation she had with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The recording has since circulated widely, with Duru describing it as only a “sneak peek” ahead of further material she says she plans to release.

But there is an important qualification. The recording has not been independently authenticated. The identity of the voices, the date of the conversation, the completeness of the recording and the wider context have not been independently established.

Neither Akpabio nor his office had publicly confirmed or denied its authenticity in the latest reports reviewed by ValidViewNetwork.

Still, what is contained in the purported conversation is substantial enough to reopen questions around the political dispute.

What the purported audio says

According to reports analysing the recording, the male voice identified by Duru as Akpabio discusses several political figures and developments, including Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Senator Ned Nwoko.

One of the most striking portions concerns Okowa. The voice reportedly says Okowa’s movement into the All Progressives Congress was linked to concerns over corruption investigations rather than political sincerity.

The reported statement includes the words: “Okowa was coming late because of fear of his corruption cases. It’s not because of sincerity.”

That is a serious claim about a former governor and current political figure. It should therefore be treated strictly as a statement attributed to the speaker in an unauthenticated recording, not as an established fact about why Okowa changed political alignment.

The audio also reportedly touches on Senator Ned Nwoko. In one section, the speaker appears to discuss keeping aspects of the conversation away from Nwoko, while another part refers to relationships and political disagreements involving people around the controversy.

Natasha’s case becomes a political strategy discussion

The most politically significant part of the recording concerns Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The voice attributed to Akpabio discusses how the controversy surrounding Natasha could be used in a wider political argument.

The conversation reportedly moves beyond the immediate allegations between the Senate President and the Kogi Central senator and into questions about public perception, gender politics and government policy.

One portion discusses the possibility of using the Natasha controversy to strengthen arguments for replacing the Ministry of Women Affairs with a Ministry of Gender Affairs, which the speaker reportedly says would cater to both men and women.

Another portion appears to discuss the political value of allegations against Akpoti-Uduaghan and how public opinion might be shaped around the controversy.

Duru interprets these portions as evidence that she was being used as part of a campaign against Natasha.

That interpretation remains Duru’s allegation. The recording itself has not been independently authenticated, so the wider meaning she assigns to the conversation cannot yet be treated as established fact.

‘I value you more than you can imagine’

The recording also reportedly contains unusually personal remarks directed at Duru.

According to reports on the audio, the voice attributed to Akpabio tells Duru: “I can swear with everything I own in this life that I value you more than you can ever imagine.”

The conversation reportedly presents the two sides as having differences in strategy while pursuing what the speaker describes as the same destination.

That portion is central to Duru’s new account because it appears to contradict the picture she presented publicly in 2025, when she accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of attempting to recruit her against Akpabio.

A complete reversal from 2025

This is what makes the new recording particularly significant. In May 2025, Duru publicly accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of offering her ₦200 million to make damaging allegations against Akpabio.

Akpoti-Uduaghan denied the allegation and described the material released by Duru as false and manipulated.

Duru is now presenting a very different account. She alleges that Akpabio himself engaged her to mount a campaign against Natasha.

The contradiction is obvious. In 2025, Duru’s public account placed her on one side of the dispute.

In 2026, the new recording is being presented by her as evidence that her relationship with Akpabio was different from what her earlier public statements suggested.

That does not, by itself, establish which account is true. It does, however, explain why the latest recording has revived a controversy that had already generated competing accusations, counter-accusations and disputed audio material.

Why the silence matters

Neither Akpabio nor Akpoti-Uduaghan has, according to the latest reports reviewed by ValidViewNetwork, publicly responded to the newest recording.

For Akpabio, the immediate question is whether he recognises the voice, the conversation and the circumstances in which Duru says the recording was made.

For Natasha, the question is whether she intends to respond to the portions of the audio that concern her and the alleged campaign against her.

For the public, there is another question: whether the recording will eventually undergo independent forensic examination. That distinction matters.

A recording can sound convincing and still require authentication. A political allegation can be explosive and still require evidence.

And a viral clip can create a public narrative long before investigators establish what actually happened.

The bigger story

The Akpabio-Natasha dispute has now produced a remarkable chain of allegations, denials, audio recordings and counter-allegations.

The latest development does not settle that dispute.Instead, it adds another layer.

Duru says the nine-minute audio is only a preview of more revelations. If further material is released, the crucial test will not simply be how dramatic it sounds.

It will be whether the material can be independently verified.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the fresh audio has reopened questions around the Akpabio-Natasha controversy, but the recording’s authenticity and context remain unverified. Until those questions are settled, the claims contained in it remain allegations rather than established facts.
