Davido Is Coming Home: Singer Announces Three-Night Lagos Concert Residency

Davido is bringing the celebration home. The Afrobeats star has announced a three-night concert residency at the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, scheduled for December 17, 18 and 19.

The project, titled “Oriadè: The Residency,” will mark 15 years since Davido rose to national prominence in 2011.

Announcing the shows, the singer wrote: “LAGOS!!! We bringing it HOME!”

The announcement came with a video showing Davido performing before large audiences alongside images of Lagos and the National Theatre.

For an artiste whose career has taken him from Lagos to major stages around the world, the choice of venue gives the December shows a strong homecoming feel.

Davido first gained major attention with “Dami Duro” in 2011 and went on to release hits including “Aye,” “If” and “Fall.”

His music has since travelled far beyond Nigeria as Afrobeats gained a larger global audience.

The residency will also arrive at one of Lagos’ busiest entertainment periods. The December 18 show falls on the opening night of Detty December Fest, where Wizkid is scheduled to headline.

That means fans planning to attend both events may have to choose between Davido’s December 17 or 19 performance and Wizkid’s December 18 appearance.

Davido has not yet announced ticket prices, sale dates or whether each of the three nights will feature different performances.

But the announcement has already added another major name to Lagos’ December entertainment calendar.

For Davido, it is more than another concert date. It is a return to the city where the journey began, 15 years after “Dami Duro” helped introduce a young Atlanta-born Nigerian artiste to the wider Nigerian audience.
