Oseni Asked How Politicians Made Their Money. Davido’s Answer: “None of Them Can Try It.”

Afrobeats star Davido has reacted to an old video of Peter Obi discussing his business background and wealth before entering politics.

The singer’s brief reaction has now drawn attention because Obi’s comments touched on one of Nigeria’s most persistent political questions: how did politicians make their money?

In the video, Obi displayed an American Express Platinum Card and what he identified as an American Express Centurion Card, popularly known as the Black Card.

He explained that he had built a viable business before entering politics and claimed that going into politics had made him poorer.

The video was reposted by journalist Rufai Oseni, who asked whether Nigerian politicians could similarly explain how they accumulated their wealth.

“Can every Nigerian politician tell us how they made their money like this?” Oseni asked.

Davido responded with a short but pointed comment: “None of them can try it 😂😂.”

The Question Behind the Joke

Davido’s comment may have been brief, but the question behind it is not. Obi’s disclosure puts attention on the financial lives of Nigerian politicians before they entered public office.

For many Nigerians, the bigger issue is not whether a politician is wealthy. It is whether the source of that wealth can be explained clearly and credibly.

Obi has repeatedly presented his business background as evidence that he was financially established before becoming a politician.

In the resurfaced video, he also said he did not regret entering politics despite claiming that it had reduced his personal wealth.

The renewed attention to the video comes as political parties and presidential hopefuls prepare for the 2027 contest.

Davido did not explain further what he meant by “none of them,” nor did he name any politician.

But his comment has reopened a familiar Nigerian debate: if public office is supposed to be about service, why should citizens be left guessing about the wealth of the people seeking to govern them?
