The glamorous lifestyle of British-Nigerian socialite and celebrity associate Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo was built on foundations far darker than his public displays of wealth suggested. Before his death in March 2026 from medical complications following a cosmetic procedure in Bangkok, Thailand, Ubiribo spent his final years as a fugitive, evading high-stakes drug trafficking charges brought by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The extensive transnational criminal case—which linked a Port Harcourt-based prophetess, an international drug ring operating out of Los Angeles, and a network of vulnerable teenage girls—remained legally unresolved at the time of his passing.

The Airport Interception and Cartel Unravelling

The lid was blown off the sophisticated syndicate on November 16, 2022, when NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, intercepted a major consignment. Hidden shrewdly inside cartons of used clothing at the NAHCO import shed was 32.70 kilograms of “Loud,” a potent, high-value variant of cannabis.

The immediate arrest of a freight agent, Ukoh Ifeanyi Oguguo, cracked open a wider distribution network. Operatives tracked down a 15-year-old salesgirl, Chikodi Favour, at an Ajah fuel station. Favour led investigators to a luxury duplex in the Ikate area of Lekki—a safehouse explicitly rented by the syndicate to house young female marketers deployed for street-level drug distribution. A second graduate recruit, Obiyom Shalom Chiamaka, was apprehended at the same property.

Subsequent raids targeted a secondary drug warehouse within Richmond Estate, Lekki. Though core syndicate members had already ransacked the facility prior to police arrival, authorities recovered critical drug-processing paraphernalia, including sealing machines, bloating equipment, and specialized packaging materials. A follow-up sweep led to the capture of Edward Omatseye (aka Montana), who confessed to coordinating domestic logistics for the syndicate under the direct instruction of Igho Ubiribo and his wife, Danielle Simba Allen.

Pulpit Recruitment and Corporate Fronts

Investigators uncovered a sinister recruitment pipeline utilizing religious platforms to target vulnerable youths. Prophetess Faith Ugochi, founder of Christ Power Adoration Ministries based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, allegedly used her church influence to trap teenage girls seeking assistance, channeling them into the drug distribution ring managed by the Ubiribo family.

While mid-level coordinators like Omatseye, Nnochiri Chidinma Promise (representing logistics partner Ben Cargo Ltd), and the corporate entity itself were swiftly arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos, the prime architects proved elusive.

Formal letters of invitation dispatched to Prophetess Ugochi and the celebrity couple were systematically stonewalled. While Ugochi abandoned her Port Harcourt residence to go into hiding—continuing her ministry virtually via Facebook—Ubiribo and Allen initially engaged legal representation to buy time before cutting off all communication channels.

Before vanishing completely into international obscurity, the couple executed a desperate financial maneuver. They hurriedly siphoned off Eighty Million Naira (N80,000,000) in illicit proceeds from their corporate front, Lasgidi Backwood Ltd, transferring the funds into the private bank account of an associate, Victor Imagoro. In response, the NDLEA secured sweeping freezing orders and court mandates to seize connected luxury assets, including a functioning fuel station and properties spanning Lagos and Port Harcourt. By April 2023, the Federal High Court officially declared Ubiribo, Allen, and Ugochi as wanted fugitives.

An Unfinished Reckoning

For nearly three years, Ubiribo maintained a fugitive’s lifestyle abroad, associating with high-profile entertainment figures while evading Nigerian jurisdiction. That evasion came to an abrupt end on March 6, 2026, when his death in Bangkok, Thailand, was announced.

An inquest concluded by the Inner West London Coroner’s Court revealed that Ubiribo suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism triggered by a cosmetic penile enlargement procedure involving hazardous volume injections of hyaluronic acid. While glowing tributes from entertainment elites marked his passing, the legal shadow of his alleged cartel operations—and the accountability sought by anti-narcotics authorities for the ruined lives of exploited teenagers—remains a stark reminder of the illicit underbelly tied to his jet-set existence.
