A harrowing account has emerged of the systemic failures that allowed a violent repeat offender to remain in the United Kingdom, culminating in the brutal rape of a 19-year-old woman in Wrexham, Wales.
Gift Oladele, a 24-year-old Nigerian national, subjected his victim to a vicious assault in an isolated woodland area after offering to walk her home following a night out. During the ordeal, the young woman feared for her life as she was repeatedly struck and overpowered.
Following the assault, Oladele delivered a chilling remark to the terrified teenager: “I think you’ve had enough now. At least you have been raped by someone good-looking.”
A History of Violence and Legal Loopholes
Questions are mounting over how Oladele remained free to commit the crime. Court disclosures revealed he had a previous conviction from 2022 for a sexually motivated attack in Manchester. Following that sentence, the Home Office attempted to deport him to Nigeria.
However, Oladele successfully blocked his removal after an immigration tribunal ruled that deportation would breach his human rights under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which protects private and family life.
At the time he targeted the Wrexham teenager in September, Oladele was already out on bail over a separate rape allegation in Manchester.
Justice Served
Following a trial at Mold Crown Court, a jury found Oladele guilty of rape and sexual assault. He was subsequently sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court to 17 years behind bars as part of a 25-year extended sentence, alongside an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The victim, now 20, has bravely chosen to speak out to expose the harrowing reality of the attack and the security gaps that put her in harm’s way. Law enforcement officials have since condemned Oladele as a dangerous, predatory offender who posed a severe and unmitigated risk to public safety.
