ABUJA — Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued Mrs. Adonkie, wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, following a swift and coordinated rescue operation across the Federal Capital Territory.
Mrs. Adonkie was abducted from her Abuja residence late Tuesday night, September 1, 2026, triggering an immediate security response. Acting on intelligence-driven directives, combined forces comprising the Guards Brigade and the Army Headquarters (AHQ) Garrison swiftly mobilized to track down the syndicate.

According to a situation report released by the military, the rescue operation unfolded as troops advanced through the Aco Estate and Gosa Community axis, establishing direct contact with the heavily armed kidnappers. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and rapid advance of the military personnel, the criminals abandoned their captive and fled into the surrounding dense bushes. Mrs. Adonkie was safely recovered at Angwan Sabo Village and has since been safely reunited with her family.
The operation did not end with the rescue. Sustaining the momentum, a follow-up sweep involving elite units—including the 176 Guards Battalion and the 197 Special Forces Battalion—was launched along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis.

On the morning of September 2, 2026, troops successfully intercepted fleeing members of the criminal network near Gaube Village in the Kuje Area Council. Two suspected kidnappers were apprehended during the engagement. Troopers recovered one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition from the suspects.
Military authorities confirmed that the arrested suspects are currently in custody undergoing intensive profiling and debriefing to extract intelligence on remaining syndicate members. Meanwhile, clearance patrols and tracking operations remain active across the general area to hunt down fleeing accomplices.
The Nigerian Army has lauded the vigilance and prompt cooperation of local residents, reiterating its resolve to collaborate with other security agencies. The high command stressed that aggressive, intelligence-led joint security operations will continue unhindered to dismantle criminal networks and secure lives and property throughout the nation’s capital and its surrounding corridors.
