Chad Opens Borders: Visa-Free Entry for All Africans Set for 2027

​N’DJAMENA — In a major boost to continental integration, Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has announced that the country will officially eliminate entry visa requirements for all African nationals, effective January 1, 2027.

​The landmark policy was unveiled during the opening address of the African Water Forum held in N’Djamena. Addressing regional leaders, international partners, and delegates, President Déby emphasized Chad’s strategic position as a cultural and geographic bridge linking Central, West, East, and North Africa.

​”Faithful to our ideals in favor of African integration and the free movement of people and goods, I announce that Chad, the land of Toumaï, cradle of humanity, will open its borders and abolish entry visas for all Africans from January 1, 2027,” President Déby declared.

​With this bold move, Chad is poised to join a growing vanguard of nations tearing down historic travel barriers across the continent. It positions the Central African nation alongside countries like Rwanda, Benin, The Gambia, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya, and Togo, which have implemented or announced similar open-door policies for African passport holders.
