KWARTMA Axes Corrupt Officer, Demotes Two Over Extortion

​The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has taken a decisive stand against official corruption by dismissing one operative and demoting two others following a thorough internal investigation.

​The disciplinary measures stem from a widely circulated video capturing unethical conduct at the Geri Alimi Roundabout in Ilorin during the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise. The footage, which drew sharp public criticism, showed the officers engaging in illegal extortion of motorists.

​Reacting to the public outcry, KWARTMA Chief Executive Officer Abdullahi Oba distanced the agency from the rogue behavior, emphasizing that the actions violated the core operational standards of the service.

​Following an initial summons by the Provost Department and subsequent hearings before the Senior Staff Management Committee, the officers were found guilty under public service regulations. The resulting sanctions, backdated to take effect from July 9, mark a historic turning point for accountability within the agency.

​”There will be no sacred cows in our determination to maintain discipline, integrity and professionalism within KWARTMA,” Oba stated, warning that similar misconduct will face swift punishment.
