The 17th Inaugural lecture titled ” Once upon a water, post harvest activities of fish : anguish of producers and consumers” under the Chairmanship of the 5th Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Oluwole Banjo promises to be revealing, exciting and captivating setting the tone for a new agenda in post harvest activities of fish.

Prof. Ayorinde was born some 60 years ago at Ilesa, Osun State, to the family of Pastor and Deaconess G. O. Ayorinde of the Awosunwon Dynasty, Owo, Ondo State. He attended The Apostolic Primary School, Ipetu-Ibokun (now Ipetu-Ile), The Apostolic Primary School, Ilara-Mokin and The Apostolic Central School, Oke-Ooye, Ilesa between 1968 and 1975 for his elementary education. He attended The Apostolic High School, Ilara-Mokin, between 1975 and 1980 and proceeded to St. John/Mary’s Teacher Training College for a year programme in the 1982/83 session. Between 1984 and 1987, he obtained NCE in Agricultural Science Double Major at Federal College of Education, Osiele, Ogun State in affiliation with the University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

BJO as he is fondly called is a 1994 graduate of the prestigious Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria also known as the most fabulous campus in the universe. He has an uncommon global record of having served as the President of the Students Union and as the National President of the Alumni. He obtained both his MSc and Ph.D at the premier University, University of Ibadan in 1997 and 2007 respectively.

He has a unique and uncommon credential as a teacher who has taught at all levels of education in his teaching sojourn spanning about forty years. He was once a classroom teacher at I.M.G. School II, Oje-Igosun, Total Garden, Ibadan (1983-1984), Agricultural Science and Mathematics at Oba Akinyele Memorial High School, Anlugbua, Basorun, Ibadan, Oyo State and was later employed as a Lecturer  III at Tai Solarin College of Education, Ijagun in the Department of Agricultural Science where he rose to the rank of Lecturer I when the College of Education transited into a University of Education in 2005. He is a man of many parts with each part complementing the other and preparing him for the next part. He is the Aluta Comrade President who served as Sub-Dean, Students Affairs (2004-2010) and Dean, Students Affairs (2010-2014) of Tai Solarin University of Education. The same Commander-in-chief of Aluta Forces and Overseer, The Apostolic Church Nigeria since 2002. The same Chief and songito of the Kegites Club and Choir Master, The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Ijebu-Ode Area. The same BJO who would teach pond construction in the class is physically involved in pond construction at the backyards.

As Prof. Bayo John Oluwasegun Ayorinde will be firing on all cylinders on May 11 to the excitement of the physical gathering and global community that will be watching the live streaming all over the world, we can only hope that the anguish of the producers and consumers of fish will soon be over and all stakeholders will adhere to the words of wisdom of the erudite scholar.
