Haaland scores landmark 50th goal of season as Man City go top

Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland became first player in English top-flight football to score 50 goals in all competitions since 1931 when he converted a third-minute penalty at Craven Cottage on Sunday

Haaland also moved level with Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s single-season Premier League record total of 34 goals.

Shearer scored 34 for Blackburn Rovers in 1995 and Cole hit the same tally for Newcastle United in 1994.

Haaland reached his 34 league goals in just 30 appearances since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund with the 22-year-old potentially playing another six games in the domestic competition.

City made a flying start to the game at Craven Cottage when Tim Ream, who has been a mainstay of the Fulham defence this campaign, judged to have brought down Julian Alvarez in the box and Haaland made no mistakes with his powerful penalty.

Carlos Vinicius, who had only scored two goals previously this season, thrashed a fine finish past Ederson in the 15th minute.

But a superb 25-yard finish from Alvarez in the 36th minute proved the winner as Pep Guardiola’s side move to the top of the Premier League for the first time in 10 weeks, with a point ahead of Arsenal.
