LAGOS — In a striking career pivot, popular Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has officially traded the glitz of the movie sets for the rigor of military service, announcing his enlistment into the United States Army.
The Delta State University alumnus, known for his roles in notable Nigerian productions like A Bag of Trouble, Tanwa Savage, and Inspector K, revealed his new path via a reflective Instagram post on Friday, June 26, 2026.
Momodu disclosed that his transition from the screen to the barracks is both the realization of a personal ambition and a poignant tribute to his late father, a former officer in the Nigeria Police Force who passed away two decades ago.
The Rigor of Transformation
Reflecting on the grueling nature of his military preparation, the actor-turned-soldier described the experience as a profound test of mental and physical endurance. Momodu completed ten weeks of intensive, isolated Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
”From inception, I have always believed in achievements earned through merit, which is why I constantly push myself beyond limits,” Momodu wrote. “This particular one was forged through tears, fear of failure, resilience, endless days, short nights, fatigue, rain, and the scorching sun.”
He admitted to moments of deep self-doubt during the process, humorously questioning his own choice with the pidgin phrase, “who send me message sef?” (who sent me on this errand?). However, he maintained his focus on the ultimate goal. “We trained tirelessly, were broken down and rebuilt,” he noted. “I went to sleep a civilian and woke up a soldier.”
A Legacy Continued
For Momodu, a key milestone of his journey took place on April 12, 2026, a date intentionally chosen to bridge his family’s history of law enforcement with his new global service.
”On April 12, 2026, I honored my late father in a historic way,” he shared. “Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigeria Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army.”
Having successfully cleared the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) examination on his first attempt, Momodu graduated from basic training without setbacks. He has officially assumed duty as Specialist (SPC) J.A. Momodu. He is deployed with the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3-10, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment at Fort Leonard Wood.
The Edo State native dedicated the achievement to God, his family, and the Royal Family of Oba Momodu II of the Avyuele Clan in Agbede, Etsako West. He also extended appreciation to the US Army Recruiting Station in Burbank, California, for facilitating a seamless transition into his new career.
”This chapter is written,” Momodu concluded. “The next one begins now.”
